Keyamo under fire for describing Atiku as ‘bad loser’

Festus Keyamo

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has come under attack on social media over his condemning statement directed at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost at the Supreme Court on Wednesday after their petition against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari was dismissed.

The court led by Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad dismissed the petition moments after it began hearing the appeal.

In reaction, Atiku refused to congratulate Buhari, adding that he would remain a democrat whose spirit is unbroken.

“To those who think they have broken my spirit, I am sorry to disappoint you. I am too focused on Nigeria to think about myself. I gave up that luxury twenty years ago. The question is not if I am broken. The question is if Nigeria is whole?” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Keyamo tweeted afterwards saying Atiku was a bad loser.

“A man who claims to be a democrat refuses to congratulate the winner of an election, even after highest court affirmed it. Rather, he takes a swipe at all democratic institutions. That’s the hallmark of a bad loser. It appears the Dubai strategy turned out to be the Dubai tragedy,” he wrote.

Nigerians on Twitter have attacked Keyamo over his comments which they say should not be coming from a minister regarded as a public servant.
