Kano returnee becomes Nasarawa’s first coronavirus case

Coronavirus COVID-19

A Kano returnee has tested positive for the coronavirus in Nasarawa State, becoming the state’s index coronavirus case.

Governor Abdullahi Sule told reporters in Lafia on Tuesday that the patient is a 25-year-old female who recently travelled from Kano to Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa.

The governor said samples were recently taken from five persons for test at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory.

He said the results got to the state on Monday, with four testing negative while one came out positive.

“Four out of the five, including the lady that was said to have run away from Abuja and isolated in Akwanga, their results came out yesterday and were negative.

“However, we are not that lucky with the fifth case. It is sad for me to announce that Nasarawa State has its first case of COVID-19,” he said.

Sule added that the lady has been evacuated from Kokona to an isolation centre in Lafia.

He explained that family members of the patient have been quarantined and would be tested to ascertain their status.

The governor also encouraged residents to submit themselves for COVID-19 test if they notice any symptoms.
