Kannywood actress, Maryam Booth, threatens legal action over leaked nude video

Kannywood actress, Maryam Ado Mohammad, popularly known as Maryam Booth, has threatened legal action after a nude video of her was leaked.

The 26-year-old actress made this known in a statement she released on Instagram on Sunday.

A video which appears to show the actress in the nude has been making the rounds on social media.

The actress appeared to place the blame on her former lover, singer Ibrahim Rufus, popularly known as Deezell, whom she alleges has been blackmailing her.

She said in the statement: “For the record, I want to categorically state that this same man (Ibrahim Ahmad Rufai), has on multiple occasions threatened to leaked my video if I didn’t give him money.”

The actress made it clear that as a woman and a role model, she would not “let this matter be swept under the carpet.”

On his part, Deezell, 32, had previously denied allegations that he was responsible for the leak, as such actions are against his Muslim beliefs.

“As a Muslim, I know it is against the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of our Noble Prophet (Peace be upon him) to spread out or expose wrongful action/deeds of another to the public…,” he wrote.

He also demanded an apology within 12 hours and threatened legal actions if his demands are not met.

Since the scandal broke, fellow Kannywod stars, Ali Nuhu, Sani Danja, Rahma Sadau, Falalu Doorayi, Usman Uzee and Nafisat Abdullahi have spoken out in support of Maryam.

The Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (MOPAN) which is the regulatory body of the Hausa film industry (Kannywood) has vowed to investigate the incident.

Vice-chairman of the association, Alhasaan Kwalle, said: “We are with the actress and we will make sure we deploye every means to see that anybody that is responsible for this is brought to book so it will become a lesson to others.”
