Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan may have joined the 2023 presidential race following the purchase of the All Progressives Congress’ forms in his name.

Although it was not immediately clear who bought the form on Mr Jonathan’s behalf, PUNCH reports on Monday that a state governor credited N100m into the Fidelity Bank account of the party for Jonathan’s forms.

In a letter dated May 9, the bank notified APC national organising secretary of the receipt of the amount.

“We write to confirm that your subject account has been credited with the sum of N30,000,000.00 (Thirty Million Naira Only) being Expression of Interest form for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for Presidency.

“Please take this as a credit advice of the transaction in this regard,” the letter co-signed by Heritage Bank’s regional head in Abuja, Daniel Oniko; and the bank’s experienced center manager, Isaiah Ediae, said.

A second letter also from the bank informed APC of the receipt of N70m for the nomination form for Jonathan.

Last month, youth and women groups demonstrated outside of Jonathan’s office in the Maitama area of Abuja, calling on him to join the presidential race.

The former leader told the demonstrators, who arrived in five buses, that he had not decided whether to contest for the position.

Then-Vice President Jonathan completed the tenure of President Umaru Yar’Adua following the latter’s death. Jonathan was elected for a full term of his own in 2011. In 2015, he lost his seat to Muhammadu Buhari.
