Israeli ambassador plans Netanyahu’s visit to Nigeria

Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Shimon Ben-Shosan, has said that his desire is to bring his Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the President, Reuvin Rivlin, to Nigeria.

The last time an Israeli leader came to Nigeria was in 1958.

Mr Ben-Shosan said this on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when he presented his Letters of Credence to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Next year will be 60 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Israel, and the last time a Prime Minister of Israel visited Nigeria was in 1958.

‘‘My dream is to bring my Prime Minister and President to visit Nigeria and for President Buhari to visit Israel. That will be historic for us,” Ben-Shosan said.

Buhari had already invited Netanyahu to attend Democracy Day celebrations on June 12.

The ambassador, however, could not confirm if Netanyahu would honour the invitation.

In a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President while receiving the envoy, said that Nigeria’s diversity was its strength.

Buhari also congratulated Ben-Shosan on his appointment and urged him to go around the country and appreciate its beauty.
