I’m alive, ex-gov Olunloyo counters death rumour

Omololu Olunloyo

Former governor of old Oyo State Omololu Olunloyo has debunked rumour of his death.

Some news platforms reported on Friday that Olunloyo had passed on aged 89.

However, the elder statesman told PUNCH during a visit to his Molete residence in Ibadan that the rumour was false.

“I’m still here, not yet gone,” he said, adding, “I’ve been lucky. My father died at 42, while my mother died at 102. I’m 89. I’ve crossed the expected life age.”

Olunloyo said those breaking news of his death without confirmation should be aware they would die someday.

In June 2022, it was also reported that Olunloyo, father of the self-styled investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo, had died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

But the family said in a statement that he was not dead but suffering from old age ailment and asked Nigerians to pray for him to survive the health complications.
