Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed disappointment at the Super Eagles’ failure to defeat the Crocodiles of Lesotho.

The Super Eagles on Thursday welcomed Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in the first 2026 World Cup qualifiers for both sides.

The 151st-ranked Crocodiles scored first through Motlomelo Mkwanazi in the 56th minute before Semi Ajayi equalised for the home side in the 67th minute. The game ended 1-1.

Following backlash from Nigerians, Iheanacho, who captained the side during the game in Uyo, said in an Instagram post on Friday that the Super Eagles would do more to get three points in the next game.

“Huge honour to captain the boys yesterday,” the Leicester City star wrote, “I know this was a game we have to win. But we didn’t. We got a point from it. Hopefully we will do a lot more in the next game and get 3 points.”

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after being beaten by Ghana in the last qualification round but have qualified for the competition on six occasions.

Conversely, the Crocodiles are yet to qualify for any edition of the FIFA World Cup.

Both sides have met four times in the past and Nigeria have won on all occasions, conceding just two goals and scoring 10.
