IGP orders probe of alleged assault on policewoman who refused senior officer’s advances

Assaulted policewoman Bamidele Olorunsogo

Inspector-general of police Usman Baba has ordered the commissioner of police in Osun State, Olaleye Faleye, to probe the alleged assault on female police inspector, Bamidele Olorunsogo.

The inspector had raised alarm in a video uploaded on social media that her DCO, Ajayi Matthew, in Ode-Omu Police Divisional Headquarters assaulted her.

The policewoman accused Matthew, a senior colleague of hers, of assault and blackmail after she refused his advances because she was married.

She said, “What is my offence? He started beating me to the extent, he stripped me. Look at my chest, arms, everywhere, there are injuries. He’s Ajayi Matthew. He asked me out, that I should befriend him. I said no, that I’m a married woman.

“He started blackmailing me, claiming that he’s my lover, which is not true.”

A statement on Wednesday by Force PRO Muyiwa Adejobi said the IGP has directed investigation of the inspector’s allegations.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc+, NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, CP Olaleye Faleye, to investigate the alleged assault on woman Inspector Olorunsogo Bamidele by her DCO in Ode Omu Osun State.
