Chairman of UBA Group, Transcorp Group and Heirs Holdings Tony Elumelu has penned a note on social media in honour of his mother Suzanne and wife Awele.

Celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday, Mr Elumelu recalled how he worked at his mum’s restaurant where he learnt that hard work translates to success.

The businessman said he watched his mother run her business with strength, adding that it helped shape the entrepreneur and leader he is today.

“Today, I celebrate the amazing mothers in my life. To my mum whose experience served as my first initiation to a world where hard work translates to success,” he wrote.

“Growing up, I worked at my mum’s restaurant, watching her steer her business with leadership and so much strength. These formative years of my life made me the entrepreneur and leader that I am today. I am always grateful.”

Elumelu also hailed his wife for continually being his inspiration and for her role in raising their children.

“To my wife, Awele, my rock and constant source of inspiration, thank you for being an amazing mum to our children. Happy Mother’s Day,” he wrote.

On Friday, March 8, the world celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD).
