I won’t disappoint as aviation minister, Keyamo tells Tinubu

Festus Keyamo

Minister of aviation and aerospace development Festus Keyamo has reassured President Bola Tinubu that he would not “disappoint” him.

Keyamo stated this Wednesday night via X after the president announced portfolios for 45 ministerial nominees.

He said, “Thank you, Mr. President. On my honour, I promise not to disappoint.”

During his ministerial screening, there was an uproar in the Senate when Keyamo was accused by Senator Darlington Nwokocha ( LP, Abia Central) of insulting lawmakers in the Ninth Assembly.

Nwokocha said that Keyamo was summoned to clarify matters pertaining to a special public works programme during the Buhari administration but failed to honour the invitation.

Keyamo was minister of state for Niger Delta affairs and later minister of state for labour and employment during the Buhari administration.

The special public works programme was overseen by the National Directorate of Employment, which was supervised by Keyamo.

Enyinnaya Abaribe, a senator from the Abia South Senatorial District and former minority leader, seconded Nwokocha’s motion to stand down Keyamo’s screening.

It took the intervention of President Tinubu before Keyamo’s nomination was confirmed after he apologised for the misunderstanding between him and the lawmakers.
