Singer-songwriter, Aramide, says there are things she won’t compromise for fame.

The 32-year-old spoke almost two weeks before comedian, Ebiye, insinuated that she won the 2018 Headies for best alternative song after sleeping with someone.

Speaking with thenet.ng at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference held in Lagos on April 25, the ‘Love Me’ singer said she is underrated because she is not in competition with anyone.

“I think it’s a popularity thing. Sometimes if you’re not as popular, people say you don’t know how to sing. But for people that take their time to listen to your music, some people appreciate. But at the end of the day, not everybody will like you”, she explained.

She continued: “I put in so much work, I try to balance my life, there are certain things I will not do because I am trying to get people to like me. If someone is more popular than you, people tend to rate the person higher even when your music is better. I have come to terms that not everybody will like your music.”

Aramide won the Headies for best alternative song on Saturday ahead of Adekunle Gold, Nonso Amadi, Johnny Drille, Reminisce and Bantu.

Ebiye’s misogynist statement that she traded sex for the award was roundly condemned by Nigerians and the comedian has since apologised.
