OlisehIn the aftermath of the Super Eagles barren draw away to Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday, Coach Sunday Oliseh has replied his critics saying he is no “magician” after a dismal first game in charge of his country.

The former SuperSports pundit who seems to be feeling the heat didn’t lack words to explain the current state of Nigerian football.

While speaking to journalist at a press conference at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt ahead of Tuesday’s friendly with the Menas of Niger Republic, the gaffer called for patience from fans while he builds a team for the future.

His words: “I have said it over and over that I am no magician. We have to come to accept the hard fact that we are not right there at the top, at the moment.

“We are building a new team, and patience is required. It is like starting from the scratch, because the fact is that we didn’t qualify for the last Africa Cup of Nations.”

The Super Eagles were second fiddle to the Tanzanians for majority of Saturday’s game, but rather than blame his wards the tactician hailed the team spirit and togetherness among the current crop, an element lacking for some time now.

“No doubt, we have potential, and based on the unity I have seen amongst the players, and the willingness to work hard and accomplish, we will get back to the top in good time.

“However, I have the confidence that this group will make Nigeria proud again,” he assured.

Oliseh revealed that FC Amkar Perm of Russia midfielder, Izunna Uzochukwu will play no part in the game Tuesday’s due to an injury.

In his place an invitation has been extended to Nasarawa United midfielder, Bature Yaro.

“Izunna will not be playing the Niger friendly because he is out injured,” Oliseh declared.

Also absent is Leon Balogun who suffered a knock prior to the Tanzania match and has since flown back to Germany from Dar es Salaam.

Kickoff time for the match is 3pm.
