How Lagos lawmaker Abdulsobur Olawale died 18 days before daughter’s wedding

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly Abdulsobur Olawale died on Tuesday, 18 days before his daughter’s wedding, Qed.ng has learnt.

Olawale, who represented Mushin Constituency II at the assembly, is reported to have slumped at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag off in Jos, Plateau State.

Olawale was known as Omititi in political circles.

His daughter was scheduled to wed on December 3, according to The Nation.

Olawale, a two-term lawmaker, lost his third term bid to a former sole administrator of Mushin Local Government, Yinka Kazeem.

The 58-year-old is survived by a wife and three children. He was the chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Services.

In 2021, Olawale was installed as the Seriki Bobagunwa of Egbaland by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

He was the goalkeeper last week during a novelty football match to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

The Lagos Assembly confirmed his death in a statement by the chairperson of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security Setonji David.

“It is with deep sadness, sense of loss and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Hon. Abdulsobur Olayiwola Olawale (alias OMITITI) representing Mushin Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, who passed on today,” the statement said.

“Hon. Olawale was until his untimely demise the Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Community Relations, a second term lawmaker, left us unexpectedly and threw the whole House into mourning.

“This death really hit us below the belt. We will all miss him more than words can express. We urge you to join us in prayers for his family at this time.”
