I hate the word OAP – Daddy Freeze

Daddy Freeze of Cool FM

Radio host, Daddy Freeze, has expressed aversion at the term OAP generally used to refer to on-air personalities in Nigeria.

The Cool FM presenter made the point on Sunday in reaction to a Facebook post by Qed.ng CEO, Olumide Iyanda.

“OAP, by the way, is an ‘old age pensioner,’” Iyanda wrote on Saturday.

Commenting, another Facebook user, Julius Ogunro, wrote: “That’s in the UK. We have a right to our definitions. Here it means On Air Personality a la Daddy Freeze.”

Unimpressed by the reference to him, Freeze replied, saying “I hate those 3 letters”.

Daddy Freeze OAP

This is in spite of him beating Tolu “Toolz” Oniru of The Beat FM, Wana “Wana Wana” Udobang of Inspiration FM and Toke Makinwa of Rhythm FM in the Favourite “Nigerian On-Air Personality” category at the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

We made history! First Nigerian to win the prestigious Nickelodeon kids choice awards!
