Actress Victoria Inyama has said being circumcised remains the best thing that has happened to her.

She spoke during an Instagram live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, where she recounted the experience of being circumcised at the age of five and the pain she said followed the procedure.

According to her, the practice has had an impact on her personal discipline and choices as an adult.

“FGM is evil. You now have to deal with the consequences of that thing, having a mind of its own. Yes, I was (circumcised). Because I grew up in the village with my grandmother. But that is what is helping me. That is the best thing that they did for me. I swear to God. If I say I no dey do, I no dey do. And that is the power that I have,” she said.

“That is why nobody can say they have seen me in this hotel or that hotel.

“At the age of five or six. They will give you some (kind of) gin. When you take it, you will think you have fainted. They held me down. It was a specialist person who did it. It was just a swipe.”

She added that she did not carry out the practice on her own children.

“I did not do it for the children. They are British. I will agree if their father wanted to. Even though I have the trauma, I think that is the best thing that happened to me,” she said.

Victoria Inyama was previously married to Godwin Okri. The couple got married in 2003 and their marriage ended in 2018.

Female Genital Mutilation is widely condemned by health and rights organisations, including the World Health Organization, which says the practice has no medical benefit and can cause serious physical and psychological harm. In Nigeria, it is banned in several states, with ongoing efforts by health authorities and advocacy groups to reduce its prevalence.
