Harry Redknapp linked to Eagles’ job as Gernot Rohr’s contract drags

Englishman, Harry Redknapp, is being touted as a possible replacement for German, Gernot Rohr, as coach of the Super Eagles.

The former Tottenham boss has not led the dugout since leaving Birmingham in 2017.

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, ESPN reports, wants Redknapp to take charge of the senior national team.

However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hopes to persuade Rohr to extend his current deal which expires in June.

The German’s contract extension has been stalled since last year, with terms yet to be agreed.

In a statement last week, the NFF said: “The Executive Committee mandated the General Secretary to liaise with the Super Eagles’ technical adviser, Mr. Gernot Rohr, with a view to concluding all matters around Mr. Rohr’s new contract within the next one week.”

Rohr has been in charge of Nigeria since 2016 and led them to glory at last year’s AFCON.

Redknapp, however, has only coached one national team – Jordan – in his illustrious career which ran across several English clubs.
