Hadiza El-Rufai, wife of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stood in the defence of her son, Bello, over his clash with a Twitter user.

Bello engaged the Twitter user known as @oewonah on Sunday in a battle of words over President Donald Trump’s handling of COVID-19 in the United States in relation to President Muhammadu Buhari’s management of the pandemic in Nigeria.

The man then referred to Bello as ‘daddy’s boy’ and appeared to have called his father names.

Bello fired back with a statement adjudged by some to mean a threat to gang-rape his opponent’s mother.

“Oh and tell your mother I’m passing her to my friends tonight. No Igbo sounds please! Tueh,” he wrote in the tweet now deleted.

Mrs El-Rufai, a writer, however, said on Twitter that she did not see any threat of rape in the tweet.

“All you people talking about @B_ELRUFAI,” she wrote, “don’t @ me. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. All is fair in love and war.

“My belief: Respect everyone, but take no shit from anyone. I didn’t see any threats of rape. I would never condone that.”

El-Rufai is currently receiving treatment in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
