Two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, identified as Mowan Etete and Ignatius, were on Saturday shot dead by unknown gunmen.

Rivers police spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the killing, adding that the divisional police officer had informed him of the incident.

APC Rivers spokesperson, Senibo Finebone, in a statement on Saturday, said Etete was the former council chairman of Andoni local government area while Ignatius was an ex-official member of APC Rivers State Executive committee.

He blamed the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the attack, saying that another person believed to be late Etete’s cousin was killed.

He said, “PDP thugs have shot to death an APC chieftain in Asarama, Andoni LGA, Chief Mowan Etete. Etete was a former council chairman.

“Also killed was his elder brother and another victim that is believed to be his cousin. It’s instructive to note that PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus is from Andoni LGA in Rivers State.

“Ignatius, an ex-official member of APC Rivers State Executive committee was also shot to death in Ajakaja, same Andoni LGA of Prince Secondus.”

Also, there was gunfire and sporadic shooting at the polling unit of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Sources say the shooting began at the ward 12, unit 4 Ubima, on Saturday shortly after Mr Amaechi left the area.
