Go after Boko Haram, leave press alone; Murray-Bruce tells Buhari

Ben Murray-Bruce

The senator representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to concentrate on defeating Boko Haram and not the press.

Mr Murray-Bruce said this on Monday in a message on Twitter.

The senator’s comment comes after the Nigerian army invaded the Lagos, Abuja and Borno offices of Daily Trust Newspaper on Sunday.

The army said it invaded the newspaper’s premises because it wanted to learn how some journalists of the newspaper knew about classified military information on the military’s impending attack on Boko Haram insurgents in Baga and other communities in Borno State.

“How come we have so many heavily armed soldiers invading @daily_trust in Abuja, yet soldiers in the frontlines of the war on terror are complaining of lack of reinforcements and weapons? President @MBuhari, fight Boko Haram, they are our enemies. Leave the press. They are friends,” Murray-Bruce wrote.
