German footballer, Schweinsteiger, marries tennis star, Ana Ivanovic

Manchester United’s German midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Serbian tennis star, Ana Ivanovic, tied the knot in a glittering wedding ceremony in Venice, North-eastern Italy, Tuesday.

Schweinsteiger, 31, is Die Mannschaft skipper with 120 caps while Ivanovic, 29, is currently ranked 25th in the ATP Rankings.

The two eminent sports personalities, who have been dating since 2014, were pictured at the Venice City Hall in traditional wedding dresses.

Both were seen emerging from the hall following the wedding, with close friends and family members of both stars present during the occasion.

A day earlier, Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic were pictured taking a boat ride in the city, and news of their upcoming wedding had been reported widely in the German media.

While neither of them has made any official statement on their wedding yet, social media was abuzz on Tuesday with pictures from their marriage in Venice.

The groom’s employers have congratulated the couple.

Schweinsteiger is currently on vacation after leading the German national team to the semi- finals of Euro 2016, where the three-time champions were knocked out by hosts France.

On the other hand, Ivanovic had suffered a shocking first round exit in the first round in the Wimbledon women’s singles last month.

The newlyweds are expected to return to action in their respective sports by the first week of August.
