Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade has died at the age of 70.
Olubolade, a native of Ipoti-Ekiti in Ekiti State, died on Sunday in Apapa, Lagos. According to a statement issued by his first daughter Oluwayemisi Akinadewo and his first son Dayo Olubolade, the retired officer slumped while playing lawn tennis.
“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing. Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail. He was immediately rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa, where he was pronounced dead,” the statement read.
Olubolade served Nigeria in various capacities during his lifetime. Apart from being the military administrator of Bayelsa State, he held several ministerial positions, including minister of special duties, minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and minister of police affairs.
He celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024, a milestone that marked his dedication to public service and his contributions to national development.
The family says that burial arrangements will be communicated at a later date.
