Fire razes hostel housing NYSC members in Sokoto

Fire outbreak at NYSC camp in Sokoto

A hostel was on Wednesday morning partly destroyed by fire at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Sokoto State.

The state’s NYSC coordinator, Philip Enaberue, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that no life was lost as the 20 corps members who occupy the hostel had gone out for morning devotion.

The fire, according to him, was caused by electrical sparks, adding that the fire was put out within 10 minutes by military and other security personnel at the camp.

He, however, said that five corps members had their clothes burnt in the fire but that no document was damaged.

The coordinator also said that the affected corps members have been given new kits and money to replace valuables destroyed by the fire. They have also been relocated to other rooms.

Mr Enaberue thanked the chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Abubakar Ladan, and host communities for their concerns over the incident.
