FG charges Sowore with treason

The Federal Government, on Friday, filed seven counts of treasonable felony and money laundering against publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.

Mr Sowore was charged alongside Olawale Bakare popularly known as Mandate.

In the charges instituted against the defendants, Sowore and his co-defendant are accused of conspiring to remove the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sowore is also accused of money laundering in breach of section 15(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011.

The charges were filed a day before the expiration of the detention order permitting the Department of State Service to keep Sowore for 45 days.

Justice Taiwo had on August 8 ordered the detention of the Sahara Reporters publisher for 45 days at the instance of the DSS to enable the secret police carry out and conclude its investigation on allegations levied against him

He has been in the custody of the DSS since August 2.
