Afrobeat star, Femi Kuti, has commended art investor, Bolanle Austen-Peters, for producing the musical, Fela and the Kalakuta Queens.

Starring saxophonist, Laitan Adeniji, as the iconic Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the production ran on select days at Austen Peters’ Terra Kulture from December 2017 to January.

It is a vivid portrayal of Fela’s complicated relationship with the women around him, 27 of whom he married at a single ceremony in 1978.

The musical was such a hit that it got an extended run in January.

One of those impressed by it is Fela’s first son, Femi.

The 55-year-old, in an Instagram post on Thursday, thanked Austen-Peters “for producing the great play”, saying he “really loved it”.

A lawyer turned art promoter, Austen Peters, told the BBC in an earlier interview that she was inspired to do something about Fela’s women because people don’t talk about them.

“I wanted to understand what informed their decision to marry one man, and what drove them. You know, what was their passion?” said the 48-year-old.
