Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday attended the decoration of 39 newly-promoted officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abuja.

Mr Adesina urged the officers, who were elevated from Deputy Commandant to the rank of Commandant, to discharge their duties creditably.

The presidential aide, who was a guest at the event, told the officers that more work was needed as promotion comes with greater responsibilities.

“We know that there are challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the area of security and the NSCDC has a very big role to play.

“I know that one day the security challenges will be over and when we sit down to write the story of how Nigeria surmounted insecurity, NSCDC will be mentioned for good.

“I was told that some of those promoted had been on the same rank for 10 years which was not good.

“It is a welcome development to have 39 promoted officers spread round the country.

“This is the kind of Nigeria we desire where things are done on merit and I want to commend the CG and recommend that he continues in that pattern,” Adesina said.

The commandant-general congratulated the officers and charged them to be diligent and committed to their duties.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, urged the promoted officers not to relent in the discharge of their duties, but to see their upgrade as impetus to be more dedicated.
