Emir of Buhari’s hometown loses first wife

The Emir of Daura, Umar Farouk Umar, has lost his first wife, Binta Umar, after a protracted illness.

Daura is the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sarkin Labaran Daura (Chief Information Officer) of the Emirate Council, Usman Ibrahim, confirmed the emir’s wife’s death on Friday.

He said Binta died aged 70 around 8 am on Friday at the emir’s palace and has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Ibrahim said the funeral prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Daura Central Mosque, Suleiman Salisu.

The deceased is survived by her husband, six children and many grandchildren, as well as her adopted children.

Daura Local Government Area is currently under lockdown over coronavirus cases in the area.
