Ekweremadu’s visa letter for organ donor surfaces

Ike Ekweremadu

A letter written by former Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu requesting UK visa for a male organ donor for his daughter has emerged.

Prosecutors told the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London on Thursday that the minor is a 15-year-old male which Ekweremadu claimed was 21 years old.

The lawmaker said in the letter dated December 28, 2021, and addressed to the British High Commission in Nigeria that the male identified as Ukpo David will be donating a kidney to his daughter Sonia.

“David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital London and I will be providing the necessary funding,” the letter read.

Reports say the Metropolitan Police began investigating the case in May this year, before Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested, along with the boy at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

Ekweremadu and the others were allegedly on their way to Turkey following change of plans when the police arrested them.

The British High Commission is also suspected as complicit in the matter.

The legislator and his accountant wife were charged on Thursday with conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child. They have since been denied bail.
