EFCC seals property linked to Theodore Orji in Abia

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has sealed some property believed to have been fraudulently acquired by former Abia governor, Senator Theodore Orji.

EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu that the property were sealed in Umuahia, Abia State capital, on June 24.

He said the property were linked to Orji in the course of ongoing investigations.

The property include Abia Mall which accommodates Shoprite and other business entities, Benac Hotels opposite Broadcasting Corporation of Abia.

He said a housing estate situated at former Umuahia Main Market was also sealed.

“Our investigations show that the property belongs to Theodore Orji and as part of the investigations, we have to seal them. That is exactly what we have done,” he said.

Oyewale assured that the former governor would be arraigned in due time.

“The sealed property are proof of the ongoing investigations and the probe will determine if more will be sealed,” he said.

Orji, who represents Abia Central at the Senate, was Abia governor between 2007 and 2015.

He has been under EFCC’s radar since 2018 for allegedly misappropriating over N48 billion.
