The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday kicked against an application for examination of the iPhone SIM slot of singer, Naira Marley, charged with cybercrime.

EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, raised the objection during cross-examination of the second prosecution witness, Mr Augustine Anosike, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

According to him, the witness should not be made to open the SIM slot of the phone to determine SIM card presence, since he never opened it during his analysis.

On Thursday, defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN), asked the witness if he recalled testifying that his gadgets could capture and retrieve deleted information.

The witness was also asked he had indicated that any information was deleted and retrieved.

In response, he told the court that the content of his report indicated that items recovered also included deleted information.

After several arguments, the court upheld the argument of prosecution against opening the SIM slot.

The judge adjourned the case until April 6, for continuation of trial.

Naira Marley born Azeez Fashola is being tried on 11 counts bordering on conspiracy, possession of counterfeit credit cards and fraud.
