Comedian Victor Ebiye has damaged what was left of his career with the reckless statement that Aramide must have slept with someone to have won the award for the best alternative song at the Headies held on Saturday.
Aramide had beaten Adekunle Gold, Nonso Amadi, Johnny Drille, Reminisce and Bantu to the award.
Ebiye shared a picture of her receiving the award the award on social media and crudely added that she probably had sex with someone to get it.
His words have been appropriately criticised with some calling him a D-list celebrity while berating his work.
Some even predicted that the blunder could be the end of his career.
Ebiye is a fool.
He didn’t make a “distasteful comment”
He made a “grave accusation”
And should answer for it.People should learn that apology doesn’t overturn everything.
Maybe then they would understand how consequences work and put some thought ahead of their statements.

There is nothing funny about what the ‘comedian’ Ebiye said about Aramide. It’s unfortunate that after getting his 15 minutes of Instagram fame, he decides to spew sewage because he thinks he suddenly has an opinion that matters because of his over hyped 59 second skits.

The comedian later apologised over his distasteful joke, adding that Aramide is a hardworking artiste who deserves the recognition she is getting.

I am late to the party but I see Ebiye has apologised on his page. We still have a long way to go on this conversation around women and using sex to get ahead. No one will ever make a joke that a male artiste got an award by sleeping with the organisers. Sigh!
