‘Drunk’ guard shoots worshippers heading to mosque in Osun

A ‘drunk’ guard was on Wednesday arrested by the police after he shot at worshippers who were on their way to a mosque in Osun for early morning prayers around 5:30 am.

The incident which occurred at Halleluyah Estate in Osogbo, Egbedore local government area sent the worshippers scampering for safety.

One of the victims, Lukman Olaniyi, said the guard appeared to be trailing them before suddenly shooting at them.

Another victim, Abdul Waheed said: “The man wanted to kill us. We were just going to mosque when we saw him. He faced us with a gun and he shot at us. We ran away and he followed us. God just saved us because he attempted to kill us.”

Osun police spokesperson, Folasade Odoro, said investigation revealed that the shooter was a security guard and that he was drunk.

President of Osun State Muslim Community, Mustapha Olawuyi, described the incident as unfortunate.

He also advised Muslims not to be held back from worship by fear of danger.
