Still shocked at the translucent gown singer Rihanna wore to the 2014 CFDA Awards in NYC at Lincoln Center on June 2?
Well, the young woman with a reputation for gown out practically naked didn’t think it was that shocking. When asked if she was planning on wearing her Adam Selman creation out after the fashion awards, the “Diamonds” singer quipped: “Why? Yes I am. Do my titts bother you? They’re covered in Swarovski crystals!”
No head was left unturned when the 26-year-old turned up to collect her Fashion Icon Award wearing nothing bar a shimmering sheer floor-length dress that revealed everything, nipples et al.
Her modesty was just about hidden by a nude coloured thong, which she covered with a fur stole.
Rihanna and Adam dreamed up the gown in April 2014, while the songstress was gearing up for the MTV Movie Awards. “We started talking about it, and I sketched it shortly after,” the designer said, admitting that the process was a total collaboration.
Not only was RiRi so hands-on with the process, but she actually requested the matching head scarf! “It brings such a Rihanna feel to the whole thing,” Adam said. “It seals the deal.”
Adam seems to understand why the fashion world is freaking out.
“We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous,” Adam Selman told Style.com. “The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.”
Even the singer’s stylist needed time to prepare for the sheer dress debut: “It’s so naked,” Mel Ottenberg shared with Style.com. “I don’t know if it’s shocking—I’m with her all the time, so my shock gauge is off, but I told her that I thought she was ready for this dress a while ago, and that I wasn’t I’m the prude, and I’m just catching up.”
