Pop singer, Davido, has denied signing a record deal with D’banj for a Rolex watch in 2014.

The latter had claimed in a recent interview with lifestyle magazine, Spindle, that he signed the 24-year-old to his label and gave him the luxury wristwatch.

“I remember in 2014 when I went back to Nigeria, some young boy who used to work for me brought an artiste to me and said he wanted me to sign the artiste.

“I remember we gave the artiste a Rolex as a signing-on fee. And to look at today that the boy I’m talking about is one of the biggest artistes out of this generation, which is Davido.”

Many fans questioned the authenticity of the claim, especially since Davido was doing well on his own in 2014 while D’banj’s musical direction was unclear after splitting with his former partner, Don Jazzy, two years before then.

They didn’t have to wait for long as the ‘If’ singer has clarified in a Twitter post that he did get a Rolex from D’banj.

He, however, added he never “signed anything”.

D’banj released his much awaited fourth studio album, King Don Come, on August 25, nine years after he released The Entertainer on the defunct Mo’ Hits Records label.

He has announced a Supremacy Concert scheduled for Lagos, Nigeria on October 1 to celebrate the country’s independence anniversary.

Davido, on the other hand, is rounding off his 30 Billion World Tour which has taken him to stops in Africa, Europe and America.
