Daddy Freeze responds to criticism over Hushpuppi

Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has responded to the criticism he faced over his association with social media celebrity, Hushpuppi, who was arrested in Dubai for allegedly defrauding almost two million people of about N168bn.

The 44-year-old, who his known for his controversial views on various issues, was criticised after a video from his 2019 mini-documentary on the social media celebrity resurfaced.

In the video, Daddy Freeze can be heard laughing as Huspuppi boasted that his driver and cook earn more than Local Government Chairmen and bank managers in Nigeria.

Many wondered why Daddy Freeze, who frequently attacks pastors and politicians, did not extend the same energy to Hushpuppi.

In the video he shared on YouTube on Friday, the radio presenter defended himself, saying he had discussed Hushpuppi’s income in a radio interview before he the mini-documentary and felt no need to bring it up again.

“My attention has been drawn to a lot of stuff being said online regarding my relationship with Hushpuppi and I’m here to address it… The previous day we had talked about Hushpuppi’s income on the radio… So I got Hushpuppi on the phone and we discussed his income… Or what he said his income

“This video was recorded a year ago my interview with Hushpuppi was recorded eight months ago. Why I didn’t discuss Hushpuppi’s income in the Dubai interview, it’s because I spent a whole show discussing it in Lagos, he explained.

The presenter, whose real name is Ifedayo Olarinde, however, admitted that he would think twice about promoting Huspuppi under the present circumstances.

“I do not support fraud so I wouldn’t do a video today showcasing his lifestyle if he had a case in court…,” he said.

Hushpuppi, Woodberry, and eleven others were arrested on June 10. for alleged 150 million dirhams (N168 billion) fraud.
