A Federal High Court in Abuja has upheld the suspension of Omoyele Sowore and Malcolm Fabiyi as the national chairman and deputy national chairman respectively of African Action Congress (AAC).

Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled on Friday that Leonard Nzenwa be maintained as the party’s acting national chairman.

Ekwo granted all the reliefs sought in the suit filed by Nzenwa, among which was for the court to affirm the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to suspend Messrs Sowore and Fabiyi for six months at its meeting held on March 27, 2019.

Sowore has vowed to appeal the ruling.

A member of AAC NEC, Mazi Okwy, had on May 13 announced the suspension of Sowore, who was its presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, and eight others for a period of six months.

Okwy said their suspension was based on alleged anti-party activities “particularly on inflow of illegal foreign funds into the party and personally retaining same in contravention of Section 225 (3)(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), together with eight others.”

Sowore, in response, expelled Nzenwa from the party and suspended the ‘misguided’ individuals who participated in the meeting.
