Chaos in Ago Palace as four feared dead over police, driver tussle for steering

At least four people have reportedly died in Ago Palace Way, Lagos following a struggle over the steering wheel between an alleged traffic offender and a police officer.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday morning sent shock across the area.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle which the driver and a police officer were struggling over crashed into a woman, her two children and a tricycle driver.

“A traffic offender and police were tussling the car. Car goes out of control, flattens a Keke with a woman and her two kids; all dead including Keke rider.

“Policeman almost lynched, more police officers and personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived at the scene to salvage the situation, shooting in the air and all,” an eyewitness was quoted as telling TheCable.

The source further said the police fired teargas to disperse a mob that was formed over the incident.

Spokesman of Lagos Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin did not immediately respond to requests for comments, the online newspaper noted.
