The Department of State Services (DSS) and the police have arrested the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos State, Fredrick Nwajagu.

A police source said the Igbo leader was arrested on Saturday morning, reports PUNCH.

“A team of police and DSS went to his palace but he had already fled. He was later traced to a hotel in Ejigbo where he was arrested,” the source said.

Nwajagu had said in a video that went viral on Friday that he would invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to secure the property of Igbo people in Lagos.

He said, “IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that. We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning, and in the afternoon.

“When they discover that we have our security before they will come, they will take caution. I am not saying a single word to be hidden. I am not hiding my words, let my words go viral. Igbo must get their right and get a stand in Lagos State.”

His statement followed recent fire incidents at some markets in Lagos populated by Igbo traders.

Factional leader of the IPOB Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland, recently asked Igbo traders in Lagos to prepare for a sit-at-home protest over the alleged attacks on their businesses.
