Calling for Remi Tinubu to be killed is condemnable — Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has condemned the call by an Islamic cleric for first lady Remi Tinubu to be killed.

In a viral video, the cleric, whose identity could not be immediately confirmed, said in Hausa that the wife of President Bola Tinubu, “being an infidel should be put to death as provided for in the Quran”.

He, however, did not provide any chapter or verse of the Quran to support his claim.

The cleric also said the Muslim/Muslim ticket that brought Tinubu to power was a scam.

Mrs Tinubu is an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) while her husband Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are both Muslims.

In a post on X on Thursday night, Sani said the cleric’s statement was “unacceptable and condemnable”.

“Criticising the Government and its policies is within the ambit of democratic rights; but Calling for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu by the religious cleric is unacceptable and utterly condemnable,” he wrote.

The video has raised concerns among netizens.

Several persons on X have also called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to identify and arrest the cleric.
