The police in Paris have said that a driver of an armoured bullion van containing $1.13 million has disappeared, carrying with him the said amount.

AFP reports that the 28-year-old driver had parked in front of a Western Union office on Monday at 6:00 am (0500 GMT) in Aubervilliers, a suburb north of the capital, as two of his colleagues went inside.

On returning, the van and the driver had vanished.

Police sources say the van was left ajar when it was found a few blocks away from the Western Union office.

The French police have now launched an investigation into the case.
