Buhari defeats Atiku in Lagos

Muhammadu Buhari in Daura

President Muhammadu Buhari has won the presidential election conducted on Saturday in Lagos State.

Buhari polled 580,814 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 448,016 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yaba area of Lagos announced the latest results on Monday afternoon.

Buhari won in 15 local government areas of Lagos while Atiku won in five LGs heavily populated by South East residents.

Buhari defeated his rival, Atiku with a 132,798 vote margin, a little less than the 160,143 votes with which he defeated Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 when he scored 792,460 votes as against Jonathan’s 632,327.
