Bob-Manuel Udokwu explains absence from social media

Actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has explained why he chose to remain largely silent on social media in recent years.

The former lawmaker shared his thoughts in an Instagram post on Thursday alongside a photo of himself, saying he prefers to observe online conversations from the sidelines because of the nature of discourse on social media.

“Social media has become something else in Nigeria. Most times things that have little or no relevance to the day to day struggles of the people go viral and consume valuable time and data from the same traumatized people! It baffles me! Too much dragging and trolling everywhere! I really don’t regret my choice to stay quiet and read from the sidelines while the job is done…… I am sure you would agree with me on this? However due to popular demand I will be more active in posting and engaging my fans from now on….. How una see am?” he wrote.

Bob-Manuel’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about online trolling, cyberbullying and the increasing influence of social media trends in Nigeria.

The actor, known for starring in Nollywood classics such as Living in Bondage and Karishika, also gained popularity as the longtime host of reality television show Gulder Ultimate Search.

Beyond acting, Bob has also been active in politics and public service. He previously served as senior special assistant on creative media to former Anambra State governor Willie Obiano and later contested for a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
