Akeredolu’s deputy finally dumps APC for PDP

Agboola Ajayi

Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), hours after his altercation with the police.

Mr Ajayi announced his departure from the party on Sunday in Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

After tendering his resignation letter at the APC secretariat in Apoi Ward, Ajayi headed to the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ward where he announced his defection to the party and obtained his party card.

Ajayi, who has since fallen out with the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, was on Saturday night restrained from moving out of his official quarters at the Government House.

The police commissioner, Bolaji Salami, reportedly acting on instructions from Mr Akeredolu directed officers to prevent the deputy governor from moving out of the premises.

But Akeredolu claimed he was not responsible for the incident.

Unconfirmed reports say Ajayi intends to contest for governor on the platform of the PDP.
