Actress Aisha Lawal has responded to the criticism that trailed the character she played in Kunle Afolayan’s new film Anikulapo.
Anikulapo is the story of Saro, (played by Kunle Remi) a travelling clothe weaver, who was beaten to death for having an affair with the Alaafin’s youngest wife named Arolake played by Bimbo.
A mystical bird brings him back to life, leaving behind a gourd with the power to raise the dead.
Aisha who played the role of Sunkanmi, an older wife of the Alaafin became a trending topic on social media following her performance in the movie.
According to Aisha, her character Sunkanmi was faulted over Arolake’s decision to elope with Saro. Many believed that the ill-treatment received from Sunkanmi and her co-wife drove Arolake away.
Responding to the criticism in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Aisha Lawal defended her character, saying that Arolake was not a saint either as she faked a fever to have sex with the king knowing it was Sunkanmi’s turn.
She wrote: “OK SO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE MOST TALK ABT MOVIE OF THE MOMENT #ANIKULAPO I HAVE BEEN SEEING YOUR TAGS ON IG AND TWITTER SERIOUSLY HOW IS IT OLORI SUNKANMI’S FAULT THAT OLORI AROLAKE @bimboademoye FOLLOW FINE BOY ELOPE? Reacting in the comment section of the post, Bimbo Ademoye blamed her colleague’s character for Arolake’s misfortune.
“Na you cause am Na,” she wrote.
