Agidigbo FM owner Oriyomi Hamzat raises alarm over plan to re-arrest him

The Federal Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is making moves to re-arrest Oriyomi Hamzat, chairman of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, over alleged cyberbullying of businessman Rahmon Adedoyin, the radio station has alleged.

A press conference by the broadcaster on Tuesday in Ibadan said the alarm followed an invitation dated May 19.

Head of the station Yusuf Adebayo, at the news conference, urged the police to refrain from inviting or arresting Mr Hamzat pending the determination of a case at the Appeal Court in Ibadan.

Hamzat was arrested last year but was released after pressure from the public.

Mr Adebayo said the letter from the police was similar to the one Hamzat received last year except for a change in the date.

“It was an invitation to meet at FBI, Abuja just like the previous one that was sent last year, there is no basis for it because the case is still at the Appeal Court but the police said they are not aware.

“We are having this press conference today (Tuesday) essentially to avoid a repeat of what happened in the last court sitting where in the judgment it was claimed that no news agency covered the arrest of Hamzat on 25th May 2022, no newspaper published it, and it wasn’t on any TV channel. I personally appeared on TVC in this particular case.

“We live in constant fear of security agents showing up here and saying they want to take him away.

“A case was filed by Chief Adedoyin that Hamzat was harassing him through his consistent call for justice which he claimed has affected his business and family. The case went on and no substantial evidence was established against Hamzat,” said Adebayo.

Hamzat has been calling for justice for the late Timothy Adegoke, a native of Eruwa in Oyo State, who was allegedly killed in a hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State owned by Adedoyin.
