Abuja car wash operator accused of stealing N49,000 from customer’s car

A 27-year-old car wash operator, Uche Uhagwu, has been arraigned in a Karmo Grade I Area Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing N49, 000 from a customer’s car.

Mr Uhagwu operates an auto wash outfit in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja.

Prosecutor Ijeoma Ukagha told the court on Friday that a resident of Wuse Zone 6, Faruk Adamu, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on May 20.

The court heard that the complainant on May 17 at 2:30 pm took his car to Uhagwu to wash.

Adamu was said to have kept N49,000 under one of the car seats and went to a nearby mosque to pray.

The prosecutor said Adamu returned and could not find the money.

The alleged offence, Uhagwu said, contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 to with a surety in like sum.

Maiwada ordered that the surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned until June 26 for hearing.
