The traditional ruler of Iyani-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Joel Sunday Daodu, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Multiple reports indicate that the Oniyani of Iyani-Akoko was abducted along the Ikare-Owo Road in the state on Saturday.

It was the same axis where former Regent of Akungba-Akoko, Oluwatoyin Omosowon, was kidnapped two years ago.

Daodu’s abductors have reportedly contacted his family, requesting N15million ransom for his release.

His family, according to a report by Vanguard, is pleading with the kidnappers to reduce their demand to between N500,000 and N1million.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the abduction, said investigation is ongoing, assuring that the monarch would soon be rescued and the perpetrators brought to book.

He implored members of the community and the entire state to remain calm and continue their normal activities, saying that their lives and property are adequately protected.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Segun Ajiboye, has condemned the unfortunate incident.

Speaking with newsmen, another monarch, the Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Ojo Adetona, expressed concern over the abduction.

Oba Adetona appealed that security be beefed up around traditional rulers, as monarchs’ kidnapping was becoming embarrassing in the state.
