Here are seven things to know about him

  1. The real Teju

Teju’s real name is Gbadewonuola Olateju Oyelakin. The stand-up comedian was born in Lagos Nigeria. Teju is an alumnus of the University of Lagos where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in insurance.

Teju started out to be an actor and went on to become a successful stand-up comedian. He auditioned for a role in the block –buster movie, Diamond Ring, in 1998. Teju was cast in the lead role as Chidi, and the movie was well received. This got him a bit of fame but did not help advance his acting career.

Teju’s comedy career started when he emceed for a departmental end of the year party whilst in the university. He enjoyed the experience so much that he spent less time trying to act and focused more on comedy and was soon rewarded with success and recognition.

The award-winning talk show host got married to former pageant winner and former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria contestant, Tobi Banjoko, in September 2012.

In 2010, the MC created The Teju Babyface Show. This was the first of its kind in Nigeria and became an instant hit on television in Nigeria and beyond. The show is built in the mould of American talk shows and showcases the best elements of the African society. It has played host to many celebrities and important personalities and remains an original African offering with such features as the theme music (Eri Okan/Conscience by King Sunny Ade) introducing viewers to a glimpse of the African soul.

The TV producer is the author of the book Secrets of the Streets. According to Teju, the book will provide answers for millions of young people across Africa who desire to have a successful career in the entertainment industry.

The 2012 City People Awards Male Achiever of the year shares birth date with the award-winning R&B singer, Timi Dakolo. Teju took to his Facebook page on Friday to wish himself and Timi Dakolo happy birthday.
