18-year-old allegedly commits suicide at boyfriend’s house in Cross River

The police in Cross River are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-year-old woman at her boyfriend’s house.

A statement posted on the Nigeria Police Force official website on Sunday reads: “On 8th August, 2015 at about 2:30pm, Police received a report from a man (name withheld) of Ukpa community that his girlfriend (name withheld) 18yrs old of Ububa-Iye arrived his house in company of his brother who left thereafter.

“That he went out to wash his cloths only to come back and met his girlfriend unconscious with an empty container of DD insecticide beside her.

“She was rushed to hospital where she died. Corpse deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“State CID Calabar is investigating.”

Also on the same day, at about 6:15am, “police received a report that one Josephine Ariwo ‘f’ of Agbege area Owutu, Ikorodu allegedly poured hot water on two persons (one male and a female) all of same address.

“Police operatives rushed to the scene, (and) the victims who sustained severe burns were rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment.

The attacker has been arrested and taken into custody.

“One of the victims is discovered to be the brother of a man living in Counting Estate, Agege whom the attacker claimed jilted her.”
