He was born Damini Ogulu on July 2, 1991 to Samuel and Bose Ogulu, fondly called Mama Burna Boy.

He hails from Mbiama in Ahoda West Local Government area in Rivers State.

His grandfather is veteran broadcaster, music critic and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s former manager Benson Idonijie

He rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing the lead single ‘Like to Party’ from his debut studio album L.I.F.E.

Aristokrat Records released L.I.F.E on August 12, 2013, with other singles like ‘Tonight’, ‘Always Love You’, ‘Run My Race’ and ‘Yawa Dey’.

The album features guest appearances from 2face Idibia, M.I, Timaya, Olamide, Reminisce and Wizkid, with influences from Fela, King Sunny Ade and Bob Marley.

Burna Boy split from Aristokrat records in 2014; he created his record label called Spaceship Entertainment in 2015.

He released his sophomore album, On A Spaceship, in November 2015, with singles like ‘Oluwa Burna’ and ‘The Realest’.

Burna Boy released his critically acclaimed third studio album, Outside, on January 26, 2018 under Atlantic Records.

Outside was supported by six singles: ‘Rock Your Body’, ‘Streets of Africa’, ‘Koni Baje’, ‘Sekkle Down’, ‘Heaven’s Gate and ‘Ye,’ with vocals from English musicians, J Hus and Lily Allen.

The album’s biggest single ‘Ye’ ended up atop most Nigerian publications year-end list as the biggest song of 2018.

On January 3, 2019, he was announced alongside Mr Eazi, as one of the artists performing at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Burna Boy is currently in a relationship with English singer, Stefflon Don.

He was awarded the Best International act award at the BET awards on June 23, 2019.
