Zenith Bank Plc has partnered with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) to mark the 2026 World Environment Day with a two-phase environmental clean-up exercise in Lagos.

The initiative was held under the theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

According to a statement by the bank, the first phase took place on June 3, when members of staff carried out a clean-up exercise along Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island.

The exercise also included awareness campaigns on proper waste disposal and environmental responsibility.

The second phase was held on June 4 at the Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi in collaboration with LAWMA and LASWA.

The exercise focused on removing waste from the waterways and supporting efforts aimed at maintaining a cleaner environment.

Speaking on the initiative, Zenith Bank’s group managing director and chief executive officer Adaora Umeoji said environmental sustainability remains part of the bank’s operations.

“At Zenith Bank, sustainability is integral to how we operate. Clearing our streets and our waterways is a practical reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility – and one we are proud to take up alongside LAWMA and LASWA,” she said.

Umeoji added that the bank would continue to align its operations with environmental standards while supporting programmes aimed at environmental protection.

Zenith Bank said it remains committed to incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations through investments in environmental initiatives, energy efficiency and community-based programmes.

The bank noted that its sustainability efforts support several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities and climate action.
